Sachin Tendulkar Launches Cancer Research Centre

A brainchild of 100 gastroenterologists from India and the U.S., the centre is located in Hyderabad and it would estimate the actual incidence of prevalence of digestive cancers by developing a GI cancer registry.

The chairman of Asian Institute of Gastroenterology, Dr D Nageshwar Reddy, said the centre will have a good registry of GI cancers in a span of three years. He also said, “Not just cities but even the rural parts of Andhra Pradesh will be covered,” as reported by TNN.

From the University of Kansas, School of Medicine Dr Prateek Sharma said that nearly 2 lakh people are dying due to GI cancers every year. He also said, “There is no prevention programme. The incidence of GI cancers far outnumbers lung and breast cancer combined in developing countries.”

Competitive grants will also be provided to research scientists by the cancer foundation to improve the understanding of digestive cancer prevention and treatment.

Sachin has been a crusader against cancer since he started supporting the Crusade against Cancer foundation for children. Sachin’s request on twitter raised 1.025 crore for the Crusade against Cancer foundation.

Apart from giving his best on the field Sachin also believes in giving the best to the society and the people, in his own way.
