NASSCOM Receives 4000 Startup Applications, Bangalore Tops The List


Another interesting factor which was revealed was that one in every five application was filed from smaller towns. With reference to the demographics, over 70 percent applications came from applicants under the age of 30 indicating the rise of young people participating in the startup program which is a healthy sign for the country’s economy; however, only about 15 percent applicants were women.

The retail vertical had 18 percent applications followed by media and communication at 16percent and healthcare at 11 percent. From a technology point of view, a whopping 66percent of the applications came from startups engaged in web/Internet followed by mobile startups occupying a share around 24 percent. Applications from Cloud and Big Data were at 16 percent and 11 percent respectively.

The key highlight from this application procedure reveals that education sector has received a surprising amount of applicants. With right amount of funding, guidance and resources from NASSCOM, let us hope to see as many of these applicants to go on to become the successful startups to come out of India.
