The Deal: $1.1 billion
The acquisition of Great Plains and Navision in 2001 and 2002 respectively paved a new path and a new direction for Microsoft. Microsoft acquired Great Plains for $1.1 billion in 2001 and this opened the gates onto corporate software business. Today, Microsoft records a strong profit insight from the corporate software field.
KOREA TELECOM:
The Deal: $500 million
Microsoft certainly agreed for this deal for an uncertain return. In 2001, Microsoft agreed to invest $500 million for a stake in the government owned telecoms company. Maybe Microsoft was thinking to get a big bite out of Korea’s highly proclaimed advanced internet markets.
