4. Tiananmen Square protests of 1989:

The Tiananmen Square protests, also known as the June Fourth Incident in Chinese, is student-led popular demonstrations which took place in 1989 in Beijing.  Nearly a million Chinese, mostly young students, crowded into central Beijing to protest for greater democracy and call for the resignations of Chinese Communist Party leaders, deemed to be brutal. The protest received a massive support from city residents and exposed divide within political leadership in China. The protests were effectively suppressed by insistent leaders who directed the military to impose martial law in the country's capital. The attack that initiated on June 3–4 became known as the Tiananmen Square Massacre or the June 4 Massacre as troops with assault rifles and tanks caused thousands of casualties. The scale of military mobilization and the resulting bloodshed were unprecedented in the history of Beijing, a city with a rich tradition of popular protests in the 20th century.
