Largest Political Gatherings That Attracted Millions

3. Benazir Bhutto Returned To Pakistan in 1986:

Benazir Bhutto, a two-time former prime minister received a historic welcome in Lahore on April 10, 1986 after returning from two years of political exile in Europe. Around 150,000 ecstatic supporters gathered onto the Mall Road in Lahore to welcome her. Authorities deployed thousands of security forces to protect the secular and liberal Pakistan's People Party from a possible attack by Islamic radicals. But the precautions failed to prevent her party from mounting a spirited street party. Hundreds of buses reached Karachi overnight, pouring crowds ranging from members of Pakistan's minority Christian and Hindu communities to Baluch tribesmen with flowing white turbans.
Men banged on drums, shook maracas and performed traditional dances along her planned route to the tomb of Pakistan's founding father, Mohammed Ali Jinnah, where she planned to make a speech. The leader’s motorcade took 10 hours to travel 12 kilometres from the airport to the centre of Lahore.
