Large number of B-Schools and Engineering Colleges Shutting Down

To resolve this situation, AICTE has permitted colleges to put forth a 5 year dual degree program, along with science graduates which include BSc (information technology) and BSc (computer science) to directly sign up in the 2nd year of the MCA curriculum. There are certain regions where the engineering colleges have presented an upward drift , places like Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Punjab and Rajasthan are showing that new colleges are opening faster than closing.

The sources of AICTE disclosed that for India this is crucial point for professional education. The colleges with low status and located in remote areas are not drawing many students. To get students the colleges need to be well represented and be on the top notch list.

Previously the enrollment in professional colleges was the most important requirement for Indian student’s career because the seats were few. As the number of seats has increased in the last 10 to 12 years, there have been major concerns regarding, the inadequate campus placements, the underqualified teachers and the insufficient facilities to cope the coaching.

"This is a turning phase for the professional education sector. Colleges in remote India and institutes of poor quality are not getting students. And for colleges, there is just one key to attracting students: institutes need to be top-of-the-line colleges. There is no payoff in running a bad college” as said by AICTE chairman, S S Mantha to TOI.
