Is Corruption Making It Tough For MNCs To Do Business In India?



It is considered that the big organizations from the developed countries are uncertain about the growth and much hyped BRIC economies because of the higher corruption risks involved in these markets. For example it is not a new fact that payments to Indian and Chinese government are made to renew contracts and for licences and permits.

Corruption cultivates as government intrusion and non transparency is more in lands where offering bribe is considered normal behaviour. In such scenario the MNCs are left with little choice who is trying to grab a pie.

Undoubtedly, incursion for an MNC in a country with authoritarian environment like India is burdened with high risks. "People are finding it difficult to do business in India," says Zia Mody, managing partner at legal firm AZB Partners. "The problem is not so much about getting a licence - you have to do that in every country. The problem is about the delay and the opaqueness of the processes."
