India's Mergers & Acquisitions Surge By 12.13 Pct in First Half Of 2013



India Inbound M&A Activity Enhanced

The inbound merger and acquisition activities enhanced and witnessed the strongest start since 2011 as the foreign companies acquiring the Indian firms recovered since the deal amount surged $32.4 percent to $11.2 billion compared to the same period last year. Most of the inbound acquisitions concentrated on the Consumer Staples in terms of deal value and occupied 50.0 percent of inbound M&A activity with $5.6 billion.

India Outbound M&A Raised 294.5 Pct

The abroad acquisitions mounted 294.5 Pct to $5.8 billion after observing a sluggish start in the first half previous year. And also witnessed its highest first half level in terms of deal value since 2010 ($21.0 billion). 45.6 percent of the market activity is captured by the industrial sector as deal amount surged 17 times to US$2.6 billion compared to first half of 2012 ($151.8 million). Among India’s outbound acquisitions, Energy and Power account for 43.0 percent with $2.5 billion worth of deals. U.S. was among the most aimed countries in terms of amount and number of deals worth $2.7 billion with 46.6 percent.
