Indian Sportsmen Who Turned Politicians

Kirti Azad:
Former Indian cricketer Kirti Azad played in seven Tests and 25 ODIs from 1980 to 1986. The highlight of Kirti’s career was being part of the Indian team that won the 1983 Cricket World Cup. He played a crucial role in defeating England in the semi-finals. He later followed the footsteps of his father and joined politics. His father, Bhagwat Jha Azad was once Chief Minister of Bihar. Kirti was elected to Parliament on a Bharatiya Janata Party ticket from Darbhanga, Bihar. He is presently serving his second term in the Lok Sabha. He was previously an MLA from Delhi's Gole Market constituency.

Kirti’s opinion on the Indian Premier League isn’t a very positive one. Following a sting operation on players of the IPL last year, Azad came out in opposition of the tournament and demanded for it to be banned.
