Indian Sportsmen Who Turned Politicians

Mohammad Azharuddin:
Former captain of India, Mohammad Azharuddin was an accomplished batsman and captained the Indian cricket team for much of the 1990s, until being banned for his involvement in a match-fixing scandal. His characteristic ‘wrist-flick’ batting style was widely acclaimed. Noted cricket-writer John Woodcock had once said, "It's no use asking an Englishman to bat like Mohammad Azharuddin. For, it would be like expecting a greyhound to win the London Derby!" After his fall from grace over the match-fixing scandal, Azharuddin moved from the cricketing arena to the political one. He joined Indian National Congress on February 2009 and won from the Moradabad constituency of Uttar Pradesh to the Lok Sabha. In November last year, the Andhra Pradesh High Court lifted the life ban on Azharuddin, implicated in the match-fixing scandal of 2000. But unlike his cricketing stint his political career seems pretty jaded.
