India Ranks Low on Nutrition Index

The Chairman of Techopak Advisors Arvind Singhal informs that India with its large number of population under poverty line and the low rate of nutrition and health markers carries no surprise when it comes to malnutrition cases. The challenge of improvising will get tough when the number of these cases will increase with the increase in population. A recent study by Technopak points out the crisis in the country with insufficient healthcare access and its delivery, as reported by P. T. Jyothi Datta for Business Line.

The survey report also shows that the countries with middle income range have a low public spending capital over health. There are programmes implemented across India to fight under-nutrition like the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS). However the implementation of such programmes is quite mixed up in most states in India. This has resulted in brilliant outcomes in some parts of the country, where as other region suffer with poor results.

The ICDA is criticized for its insufficiency in targeting children between the age group of 0 to 2 years, a vital growth period.  By addressing the malnutrition condition the Indian government is strengthening its contribution on the global stage. As a result in June 2012, the Child Survival Call to Action Summit was co-chaired by India along with the USA and Ethiopia, and the Minister for Women and Children at the 2012 UK hunger summit.
