India, Fourth Most Vacation Deprived Country

British, Swedish and Norwegian get 25 days and they surely use the entire number days off on vacation. Among the European countries the Dutch work the least investing only 35 hours a week and the rest is spent on leisure and other activities.

This year the number of leaves for Indian employees has been reduced from 25 days in 2011 to 20 days. The survey shows that there were 12 percent of respondents informing that when they take a two day vacation they manage to completely cut themselves off work, whereas another 12 percent can’t stop from thinking about work and 4 percent only start to enjoy when they have got pretty settled in their vacation.

The report even shows that 47 percent of people log in on regular basis when they take their vacation and 39 percent check from time to time on their job while on vacation as remarked by Manmeet Ahluwalia, marketing head, Expedia India.

As said by Partik Mohanty, a senior level marketing professional from Borivli “Smart phones barely allow us to switch off from work. I have often inadvertently checked office mails out of curiosity and ruined holidays,” as reported by Soubhik Mitra for Hindustan Times.

The current scenario is worse compared to last year when India was ranked fifth on the survey. The survey shows that, six out of ten Indian employees have either cancelled or postponed their vacation plans.
