2004: Linux gets Ubuntu

The most used desktop distro gets its first form. Named as ‘Warthy Warthog’, the Ubuntu version was built on top of the Debian Linux.

2007: Linux comes to Android

Linux continued its comprehensive growth, as in 2007, the operating system made its mobile appearance in the form of an operating system called the Android. The Open Handset Alliance, which included Google and numerous hardware vendors led to this impressive alliance. The end result- today Android is the most popular operating system ever to hit the mobile world.

2008: The New York Stock Exchange adopts Linux

In one of the biggest moves, the gigantic NYSE (The New York Stock Exchange) adopts Linux as its core operating system. This move later on was followed up by almost all the major stock exchanges across the globe.
