H-1B Visas: 'The Ray of Hope' for Indian IT Companies

In 2009, when the U.S. economy was at the melting point, it took 264 days for the H-1B quota to get filled up. The following year, it got worse as the visas were available for almost 300 days. In 2011, the U.S. economy started showing signs of economic recovery as the cap level was achieved in 235 days. The next year, the quota took only 73 days to fill up.

It was in the late nineties that the demand for H-1B visas had increased. Numbers were filled up based on who came first. The cap in 1998 had risen to 115,000 and further risen to 195,000 in 2001, 2002 and 2003. While the year 2004 had seen the cap falling to 65,000.

The past couple of years have had immigration lawyers working vigorously on preparing papers so that clients can get their H-1B papers filed as soon as their applications get accepted by the USCIS. The number of applications that have been filed till now this year is still unknown. Even then, it is most likely that the cap will get hit at 65,000. This shows that the U.S. economy has been reviving. Companies, both IT and others are now ready to pay the extra fees for their employees’ H-1B. IT companies in India now have a good reason celebrate.
