Google Hits Back Bing with Smart 'Knowledge Graph'

"We've always believed that the perfect search engine should understand exactly what you mean and give you back exactly what you want. And we can now sometimes help answer your next question before you've asked it, because the facts we show are informed by what other people have searched for. The new Knowledge Graph a step toward what it called the next generation of search, which taps into the collective intelligence of the Web,” Amit Singhal, the senior VP of engineering at Google.

The tool has the ability to relate data from more than 500 million objects containing more than 3.5 billion facts over the internet. For instance if a search for a particular personality is made, Google will show all the relevant web pages along with a chart containing the picture of the person and all the related details like birth, parents, related events and famous work.

“Bing believes that search is about understanding user intent, and connecting that with the world of digital knowledge to help a person take action, not just search more,” Stefan Weitz, senior director at Bing, told PCmag commenting on Google’s new innovation.
