Facebook Wants to Revolutionize the $55 Billion Market

The Server Transfigure is on its way:

The idea behind segregation of the data server is to reduce the enslavement over computer parts and to offer more of an open space for companies to choose their systems as per their wish, according to company particulars.

As for now, at the summit, Facebook is working on grabbing some of the biggest names in component suppliers and companies for the specifications and its associated utilities.

According to Facebook, companies can choose their server, the design and tune up the whole structure to fulfill their needs. The server could be ordered through the systems integrator, which would then source parts through components suppliers that have signed onto the project. But still with all these impressive details, tech companies are on their back-foot because of the uncertainty on how the model will be received outside the internet world and with cloud service providers.

The current server infrastructure is so inflexible that customers who buy from big server vendors like IBM and Dell have to bear all the imperfections within the server and have a limited choice at hand in terms of component picks, stated Facebook.

"The power supply shouldn't be embedded in the server, otherwise you have to design the server around it, and if your power requirements change, you're stuck," said Frank Frankovsky, a Facebook vice president and one of the leaders of the Open Compute Project, in a speech opening the summit.
