Facebook Lite To Debut In India Soon

As the Facebook already has users from developed countries like U.S. Europe, Canada and others, this new lighter version of Facebook may help the company to get many more users from developing and underdeveloped countries. To go after these customers, Facebook spent a reported $70 million to buy Snaptu, an Israeli company that had offered primitive versions of Facebook and other apps on simple cellphones.

Off late, many of the internet companies are suffering in revenues as the users base is shifting rapidly towards mobiles and tablets, which carry lower ad rates than ads on PCs- which is getting redundant with every passing day.

Last year Facebook did make big shift from ‘only on PCs’ to Smartphones and tablets with its apps for iOS and Android, by introduced new types of ads that nudge users to install a new game or other apps on their phones. Similarly, the lighter version of the Facebook will be an app that works on slower data speeds, and maintains all the basic essential features the social networking site, like news feeds, chat and photos on feature phones with very basic computing power and low resolution. The software also has features that are common in more advanced versions of Facebook, including sticker-size emoticons in chat and Instagram-style filters to dress up photos.
