Bharat Bandh Disrupted Business

In the national capital, bandh did not get much response even though the supporters of NDA and Left blocked the traffic in some places. The small shops remained open but the auto and taxi unions joined the protest. The commuters had complained about the transportation services. Prakash Karat and Sitaram Yechury of Left party and D. Raja of Communist party were detained as they raised slogans against the Central government and blocked vehicles on the roads.

In BJP ruled state, Karnataka, the bandh supporters set three buses on fire and stoned some buses forcing the authorities to withdraw bus services in the city. So the public transport was hit and shops and business establishments remained shut in several parts.

Tamil Nadu had a lukewarm response on the bandh called by NDA and Left parties to protest against petrol price hike. Buses, auto rickshaws and private vehicles plied and the government offices and commercial establishments functioned as usual. Some of the BJP workers were detained in an attempt to block the road and rail traffic. Only the towns like Tirupur, Coimbatore and Nilgris district were affected as 50 percent of the traders and commercials establishments remained close.
