Asia's Longest Ongoing Military Conflicts
6. Naxalite–Maoist insurgency:
The Naxalite insurgency has continued to confront India for quite a long time as compared to any other uprising in post-independence India. This insurgency group which began 42 years ago in the state of West Bengal is now active across the central and eastern India. Estimated to be 40,000 strong, the Naxalites have been waging a revolt against the Indian government since the late 60s. The group has been a strain on the country's security forces and a barrier to development in the vast region in eastern India known as the ‘Red Corridor.’ As such, in 2006, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh declared Naxalism as the single biggest internal security challenge ever faced by India.
