App To Combat "Culture Of Rape" In India: When Activism Meets Technology


Bangalore: India’s deep slumber was broken when an aspiring physiotherapist, young women with zeal for bright future, met with an extreme inhuman act of rape and brutality. The women, nicknamed “Nirbahya”, after clinging to her dear life for 13 days, succumbed to the horrific injuries she suffered in a gang rape that shook the country. The gruesome incident made headlines across the world, and in India there were protesters who filled streets seeking justice, seeking their voice to be heard, and seeking such incidents not to happen ever again.

At the annual Women in the World conference in New York last week, former Secretary of State U.S., Hillary Clinton took to the stage to speak bluntly and directly about what she called a “culture of rape.” She spoke about Nirbhaya, and the horror it evoked among the people of goodwill, reports Forbes.
