MediaTek Teases World With First True Octa-Core Processor

When it comes to Exynos 5 Octa processor, it is a system where four high powered cores would turn on to get the job done and four lesser cores would turn on when high powered cores are not required. It was more like two quad-core processors smashed together.

Motorola too can up with a chip composed of 8-cores; however, it was just a modified dual-core processor with two single core processors and a quad-core graphics chip, plus two other cores for sensors and language processing.

MediaTek’s new octa-core processor offers advanced web browsing, which means faster and more stable browsing experience by allocating individual browser tabs to CPU cores; smoother user interfaces by giving user-inputs to individual cores and rendering the 3D effects that result in enhanced functionality and appearances in both apps and operating system; improved gaming experiences via enhanced video frame-rate processing and low-latency gaming experience; and it can delivers efficient video playback feature that reduces the battery used for decoding with up to 20 percent more frames while on display mode. MediaTek unofficially said that the chip will be released in fourth quarter of the year.

The company did not make available the benchmark tests on the processor, which could have given better insight in to the chip’s functioning, on the other hand Samsung just announced the second generation of Exynos 5 Octa, Exynos 5420, which is faster, has a better GPU, and, very importantly, can reportedly fire up both processor clusters.

The South Korean company says it will start manufacturing the new Exynos 5420 this August, and it could swoop in and get the coveted “first” title once more, leaving MediaTek with just hype.
