India's Mobile 3G And 2G Data Traffic Nearly Doubled Since 2012: Study


The 3G data consumption across the country has had a significant growth due to the 3G tariff reduction by operators in mid 2012. In the first half of the year, 3G services generated one-third of the total mobile data in the country while in the second-halfit was up from one-fourth in the first half.

The study further reveals that each 3G user currently consumes around to 300 percent more data on average than a 2G user and currently 3G users consumes 434MB per month on an average while a 2G user consumes 115MB per month. Currently, strong tendency lies in accessing of mobile data through Smartphones where half of the users access on 2G networks which is lower than the ones using 3G services.

From the survey it is also revealed that the trend in mobile data growth in India is in line with the other high growth mobile data markets around the world.
