4. Bans and Censorship

YouTube’s journey has not been a cake walk all along. In spite of being available in almost all languages and being as socio-friendly as possible it has faced many spiteful lawsuits and callous bans. Many organizations across the globe have protested against YouTube’s leniency towards letting its users upload uncensored and socially insensitive videos. It is banned in almost all the Islamic countries because of a video named Everybody Draw Mohammed Day that got viral in May 2010. Besides a permanent ban in China, YouTube was blocked temporarily in Thailand and many educational institutions across the globe have blocked students from accessing YouTube stating the inability to determine what sort of video material might be accessed.
