5 People Who Died While Proving A Retarded Point

Christopher McCandless

Who Was He? He was an American adventurer who left behind all the earthly comforts and set out to explore the wild, in his words, to “find himself.”

What He Tried To Prove and What Happened? McCandless had a strong dislike for the "empty materialism of American society," and so he planned to leave the civilization behind and live in the wilderness of Alaska.

In April 1992, with little food and equipment, Christopher set out to Alaska hoping to live simply for a time in solitude. But four months later, his remains were found, weighing only 30 kg. He died of starvation in Denali National Park and Preserve, located in interior Alaska.

His journal, which had the entries of 112 days, was the inspiration behind the book and also the movie entitled “Into The Wild.”

Even though many people were sympathetic towards his fate, others, particularly Alaskans, have expressed negative views about him due to his lack of common sense for ignoring the essential stuff, not even a compass on his Alaskan journey.
