5 International Drug Lords of All Time

2. Joaquin Guzman Loera:

Joaquin Guzman Loera, also known as "El Chapo Guzmán" or "Shorty Guzmán" is Mexico's top drug lord and kingpin. He is the leader of the criminal organization called Sinaloa Cartel, named after Pacific coast of Sinaloa state in Mexico. It was this place from where his organization operated initially. Today, Sinaloa cartel had turned into a worldwide criminal enterprise with tentacles in 48 countries including Europe, Asia, Australia and throughout the U.S.

After the arrest of his rival Osiel Cárdenas of the Gulf Cartel, El Chapo became the top drug lord of Mexico. He not only smuggled cocaine but also smuggled everything like meth, heroin and marijuana from Colombia through Mexico to the United States, and distribution units all throughout the U.S.

The United States Department of the Treasury now considers Guzman as the most powerful drug trafficker in the world. Since the year 2009, he is included in the list of the Forbes magazine of the most powerful people in the globe and also listed as the richest man in Mexico with a net worth of roughly$1 billion. Shorty Guzmán was also tagged as the most wanted man of the world in the fugitives list of 2011 as he was on the run since 1991. $5 million is being offered by the U.S. for information on him and Mexico offered 30 million pesos.
