Duke Energy deals in electric and gas services to the customers and is one of the largest electric power companies in the U.S. The company was one of the 30 companies, which was listed to having paid no income taxes over the period 2008 to 2010. The profits for the year 2008 to 2010 were $5475 million, whereas the taxes paid were a negative $216 million, a fall of 3.9 percent. The accelerated depreciation, which helped the company build new plants and hire construction workers, made the company cut its taxes.
