Last year, Aishwarya was awarded Order of Arts and Letters by the French Government. This honour is mainly given to those who show exceptionable contribution in arts, literature, or the propagation of these fields. A statement from the French Consulate said, “This prestigious distinction comes in recognition of her invaluable contribution to the world of cinema and the development of Indo-French cooperation in cinema, art, and culture,” reports The Hindu.

Though Aishwarya is acclaimed globally for her beauty, her acting prowess is still in question. So, when she was conferred a civilian award, many eyebrows were raised in question about the award criteria and where she fits in.
