15 Shortest-Tenured CEOs Ever
4 Ed Whitacre, Jr.
CEO tenure: 9 months
Ed Whitacre was nick named as the "GM Reaper" while he was at the helm of the company for killing off brands post-bankruptcy. He served there from January 2010 and was there for 9 months.
He could pull up the company's financials, and prepare the company for its IPO. But what the company needed was a long-term CEO who could steer the company in a new direction. Whitacre was not that type.
3 Jack Griffin
CEO tenure: 5 months Sept. 2010 - Feb. 2011
Jack Griffin could not even continue at Time for more than 5 months. His strange short tenure as the CEO of the magazine powerhouse starting from September 2010 was full of alleged controversy.
Griffin during his tenure made too many references to his being Roman Catholic (including comparing the company to the Vatican). He also made off-color or sexist comments. He also ruffled feathers by throwing away money to consultants to help in a restructuring effort, and insisting his name appear prominently atop in the magazines' amstheads.
