December 2006, 94 million credit and debit cards were exposed to security breach. Although it is very unclear on how the breach took place, one supposes that a group of hackers took advantage of the weak data encryption system which was a medium between two Marshall's stores in Miami when there was wireless transfer taking place. The other version for the breach is because of the TJX network was hacked. TJX, Retailer Company was of the many retailers who fell prey to the breach. Once inside a local TJX outlet's network, the hackers forged their way upstream to its corporate network in Massachusetts. Albert Gonzalez, who led a gang of cyberthieves was found guilty and was sentenced to 20 years of federal prison. TJX denied that fact that they did not have any firewalls to protect their data.
