It was in 1989 that the Exxon Valdez tanker collided into the reef near Alaska, spilling over 41 million liters of oil. This is considered as the worst man-made environmental disaster, still the company tried to skip the blame. The incident caused huge environmental catastrophe and there after many changes were made on the safety regulations of the transport of oil. The company was forced to pay $2 billion for the cleanup and in addition of $1 billion in civil and criminal charges. But still their stock value remained unchanged.
