Another car that was sold in the RM Auction was 1968 Ford GT40 Gulf/Mirage Coupe, which was sold for $11 million in Monterey California. It was the most expensive American car sold at that auction. This racing car was launched in 1967 and in 1968; the machine underwent a few changes in England making it GT40 chassis number P/1074. It was then sold to David Brown of Tampa, Florida in 1970, who leased it to Steve McQueen’s Solar Productions for work as a camera car in McQueen’s legendary film, Le Mans. After months of filmmaking it was again sold and since then it has been going through a number of hands and now it has successfully weaved a complete racing story.
