Ettore Bugatti was dreaming of making biggest luxury cars for being used among the kings and queens around the world. He built 6 cars aiming the royal families and among them three were sold.

#7 1931 Duesenberg Model J Murphy-Bodied Coupe

Gooding & Company sold this 1931 Duesenberg model J Murphy-bodied Coupe in 2011 for $10.34 million in Monterey, California.

This iconic model was first launched in December 1928. E L Cord, who acquired the company two years back, wanted a car which is ‘World’s finest motor car.’ For fulfilling this dream, the Lycoming engine was built, and featured twin overhead camshafts and four valves per cylinder. It had hydraulic, vacuum-assisted brakes and it used more of aluminum and other light alloys and thus despite its massive size, the model weighed only about 5,200 pounds.

470 chassis and 480 engines were built between 1929 and 1936. This long wheelbase convertible coupe is a one-off coupe that is fitted with personal themes and several other features including a second tail-lamp, an exhaust cutout and a freewheeling device.
