10 Countries With the Highest Divorce Rates

4. Panama

An old saying about marriage goes something like this: “marriage is like a fortress under siege: the people inside want to get out and the people outside want to get in.” With a divorce rate of 3.80 percent, it’s evident that more people in Panama want to get out. Following close behind the United States, this Central American country ranks fourth in the list. It was in fact known as the divorce capital of the world. At one time, divorce was prohibited in Latin American countries because the church disapproved of it. Today, however, things are different. According to reports, the major cause of marriage dissolution in the country is adultery.

3. USA

One would normally believe that the United States ranks first in the list with some believing the figure to be as high as 50 percent. But, surprisingly, it takes the third spot. Still, a divorce rate of 4.19 percent is not much of a consolation.  The most important reasons for divorce in the country are infidelity (ranks first) followed by communication problems, abuse (physical, psychological or emotional), financial issues and sexual incompatibility.
