10 Countries With the Highest Divorce Rates

6. Belarus

With a divorce rate of 3.77 percent, Belarus is one of the four former USSR republics that are featured in this list. Belarus takes the sixth place on the list. The reason as to why these countries have the highest divorce rates can only be speculated. One explanation could be that in its attempt to imitate the EU and the West, the country is taking not only the good but also the bad from them. Among other causes include economic problems and the rampant corruption that many believe exist in the country.

5. Ukraine

Ukarine takes the fifth spot in the list with a divorce rate of 3.79 percent. It shares some of the reasons for failure of marriages with the other USSR republics in the list.  Beside trying to imitate EU and the west culturally, socially, financially and otherwise. Traditionally, the men played the dominant role of being the head of the family and largely “provided”, while the women knew their places and performed tasks such as nurturing and other household chores. But after separating from USSR, each of these formed their own socialist republics and everybody wanted to be more “democratic” like EU and America. Suddenly, marriages were no longer as sacred as they used to be. Today, many couples choose not to have children because of the country’s unstable economic condition. Perhaps this too is one of the reasons for failing marriages.
