10 Countries that Follow Draconian Drug Laws

9. Sweden:

Sweden has some of the toughest drug policies in the world. Its zero-tolerance approach towards drugs began over the last 3 decades. Since then, amphetamines were decriminalized, enabling doctors to prescribe them to addicts. Drug use soared from a couple of hundred addicts to 2,000-3,000 within a couple of years. As such, the government decided to treat all drugs equally, from cannabis to heroin, under a single law. Stop and search laws were introduced to allow police to stop people they suspected of consuming drugs and officers could enforce compulsory urine and blood tests.

8. Vietnam:

In Vietnam, anyone found guilty of possessing more than 600 grams of heroin or more than 20 Kg of opium are likely to face death penalty. Nearly 700 people are currently on death row in the country. The drug users, including foreigners, in this country could be forcibly sent to “rehabilitation,” which includes torture, violence, harsh discipline, near starvation and back-breaking labor. It is one country that made headlines by ‘decriminalizing’ drug use a few years back.
