10 Countries that are Prone to Natural Calamities



The Dominican Republic:

The country is prone to natural disasters like earthquakes and hurricanes. The 1946 Dominican Republic earthquake had killed around 100 people and had left 20,000 people homeless. The earthquake had also caused tsunami where high waves had drowned a number of people. The tsunami associated with the quake had killed around 1800 people in the country. The 1984 earthquake, a magnitude of 6.7 had affected 320,000 people in the country. An earthquake of 6.4 magnitude jolted the country in 2003. Several hurricanes had also affected the country. The 1930 hurricane known as Hurricane San Zenon was one of the deadliest Atlantic hurricanes on record killing as many as 8,000 people. Other tropical storms and hurricanes had also affected the country causing widespread death of human beings.

Myanmar:

Myanmar ranks as the 4th most vulnerable to natural disaster. In 2008, Cyclone Nargis swept through the country of Myanmar, leaving in its wake a catastrophic human disaster. Deaths were estimated as high as 100,000 people, and at least one million people were left homeless. The densely populated Irawaddy Delta of 6 million people, with many fishing communities was hit hard by the cyclone. In March 2011, tropical storm had swept about 7,000 fishermen in the Andaman Sea. Some 400 fishing vessels had overturned and destroyed during the storm.  The March 2011 earthquake had also claimed about 150 human lives and leaving millions homeless.
