4. Pope Francis:

Pope Francis, the 266th and current Pope of the Catholic Church who have been elected Bishop of Rome, is the new entry in this list. He is the Sovereign of Vatican City. Throughout his life, both as an individual and a religious leader, he has been noted for his humility, his concern for the poor, and his commitment to dialogue as a way to build bridges between people of all backgrounds, beliefs, and faiths. He is known for having a simpler and less formal approach to his work, most notably by choosing to reside in the guesthouse rather than the papal apartments of the Apostolic Palace which was formerly used by his predecessors.

5. Angela Merkel:

Angela Merkel is the appointed Chancellor of Germany and leader of the Christian Democratic Union party. She has been described as the de facto leader of the European Union. In the recent past she undertook the challenge with severe steps to ease the European debt crisis, while pitted against the hard hit southern countries and the wealthy north. Yet she stands tall. She has held her post as chancellor since 2005.
