Where to Buy Home After Retirement in South India?

Bangalore: Coimbatore often called as the "Manchester of South India" has emerged as a most preferred place to buy home after retirement. With pleasant weather, steady cost of living, cosmopolitan lifestyle and an attractive nearby hill stations for weekend getaways, Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu scored highest. The survey was conducted by Serene Retirement Communities on preferred locations for retirement in South India, reports MagicBricks.com.

Coimbatore gained maximum preferences for retirement location due to some basic factors like good infrastructure, moderately crowded, favourable weather and affordable cost of living.

According to the survey, though Chennai is the second preferred destination with 19 percent preference score, the percentage shows a wide difference from the preference score of Coimbatore which stands at 28 percent. Interestingly, about 12 percent buyers prefer Pondicherry as a retirement destination because of low cost of living, serene surrounding, proximity to Aurobindo Ashram, Auroville and availability of good medical facilities like JIPMER.  

The Trichy-Tanjore-Kumbakonam stretch got around 15 percent preference score in terms of retirement location. Whereas places like Madurai and Tirunelveli together have managed to acquire 7 percent preference score. Besides, around 5 percent of senior citizen home buyers keen to buy property in hill stations.

After retirement people seek places where they can live rest of their lives comfortably and peacefully. Also, infrastructure plays an important role in it as retirees’ prefer places close to good medical facilities and well connected roads to key places. Therefore, developers have also started bringing in residential projects targeting this section of the society. Also, senior citizen homes are gaining popularity mainly among those who are looking for peaceful and independent lifestyle away from crowded places.
