Bangalore: Eco-friendly homes offer quality lifestyle. Many people have become aware of the harmful consequences of maintaining unhealthy lifestyle which in turn can hamper their environment and nature. Therefore people are more concerned about the environment they are living in, which has raised the demand for eco-friendly green homes among potential buyers.  Considering this, developers are also keen on designing eco-friendly projects to increase their sales.

Green home comes with many advantages. Green homes are lucrative and prove beneficial in the long run. Such building techniques are more versatile and offer durability. “Residents of green homes reap tangible and intangible benefits from the environmentally friendly design of such homes. The residents of green buildings enjoy greener surroundings within the precinct in the form of native trees and shrubs,” said Rajeev Ram Prakash, Associate Vice-President, Design Strategy, Godrej Properties, reports Times of India.

Surabhi Arora, Associate Director and Research, Colliers International, stated that “The main advantage of buying a green building is that it can be a ‘future proofed’ asset against changing government regulation and transforming tenant demands for green buildings in future as tenants increasingly understand the benefits of green buildings,” reports TOI.

Adding to it, eco-friendly houses are designed for energy efficiency. Though in today’s date, high-energy appliances are needed in our day to day life but the eco-friendly homes are designed in such a way that can control high amount of electricity usage. “Typical energy savings for a building certified as green are between 30 percent and 40 percent annually,” according to Capt. Sajit Sankar, Cushman and Wakefield.

“The government needs to play a proactive role in promoting the Indian real estate sector going green. Green initiatives taken up by the developers must be appreciated and rewarded. There is a need to devise a mechanism through which we can increase awareness among end users,” adds John.
