  • Gujarat is enabling the construction of 1,500 apartments near Tata’s Rs 91,000 crore semiconductor fab in Dholera.
  • Essential infrastructure like schools, hospitals, and a ‘Global Tent City’ is being developed to support expatriates and employees.
  • The project is expected to create over 20,000 skilled jobs, with chip production set to begin by December 2026.
In a major infrastructure push to support the Tata Group’s upcoming Rs 91,000 crore semiconductor fabrication (fab) unit in Dholera, near Ahmedabad, the Gujarat government is facilitating the development of 1,500 residential units for expatriates, employees, and suppliers.

Currently, 275 serviced apartments are available, of which 250 are already occupied. Another 225 units are nearing completion, while construction has begun on 1,000 more apartments, expected to be ready by March 2026.

These apartments, offering one, two, and three-bedroom options, are being developed in the Dholera Special Investment Region by private developers. The state government has not directly undertaken construction but has enabled it through auctions of land parcels via a special purpose vehicle. These residential units are separate from the 530 apartments that Tata Group plans to build on 10 acres allotted to it, targeted for completion by mid-2027.

To accommodate the needs of the incoming global workforce many of whom are expatriates the Gujarat government is also establishing vital amenities, including a fire station, school, hospital, desalination plant, hotel, guesthouse, and a high-end mall. A unique feature will be the 'Global Tent City,' a cultural zone designed to offer international cuisine and lifestyle elements from countries such as Taiwan, Korea, Japan, the US, and European nations.

The Tata Electronics fab is expected to generate over 20,000 direct and indirect skilled jobs, making it one of India’s most ambitious semiconductor ventures. The first chips from the facility are anticipated by December 2026. The Tata Group has also requested additional land for further expansion and employee housing, signaling a long-term commitment to the region’s development.
