Done Differently:
With the automation and mechanization as the Mantra today, I would replicate the Manual methods to systems, make the systems fully functional, MIS enabled, secure, flexible, scalable and above all, build user friendly interfaces thus facilitating seamless movement of data amongst external systems.
The Journey So Far:
19 years at Canara Bank as a techno-domain specialist, moved over to ICICI group in Sept. 2000. Architected & implemented major projects in my current profile in a very large private bank, including Trade Finance, process mapping, Payment systems, mechanization of financial statements. Currently, heading ADF project (completed) of RBI.
Role Model:
Amitabh Bachhan and Devanand. Reasons: Both are humble personalities, young at heart, very positive, radiant, respectful towards every one, methodical, perfectionist and still practical. Above all, very very punctual. Making impossible happen was their success points. Both experienced tough times.
Family Background
My parents shifted to Delhi in 1930s. Father came up in life, hard way. Headed famous travel agency in Delhi prior to selling it and retiring. I have 3 sisters and 2 brothers. Eldest sister & Brother, settled in Canada. Second sister settled in Bangalore and Middle sister retired from Syndicate Bank as Chief Manager - Delhi.
Job Profile:
Currently, architect,design and implementation in charge of ADF (Automated Data Flow) project of bank apart from actively providing help and assistance by way of mentoring to colleagues at Bank / externally on banking domain. Been involved with RBI in their automation exercise since 1995.
Advice For New Professionals:
Be true to your conscience, work and execute task with passion as long as you work with an organization. Be assertive with colleagues but do not be aggressive. Chase excellence instead of being competitive. When given a task, ask yourself WHY you should do the task, five times and you will never fail.

Changes In The Professional Environment:
The environment in my public sector bank was more informal while here, it is formal, professional, focused and involves quite an amount of multi-tasking. Having said that, I have got accustomed to pressure and am very comfortable with the environs. Today, any client requirement is doable as long as, it is within the ambit of regulatory guidlines.

Growth Strategy:
My aim is to grab opportunities to learn more and vast without as much investing in my individual growth ! This ways I have ensured, I have, in a way become a single point contact for my colleagues (as a mentor and) for seeking info / inputs on various banking aspects, including regulatory info.
Degrees That Matter:
I am privileged to be one amongst the few to be a techno-domain specialist in Banking arena, especially in Automation, process-mapping, product architecture, standardized implementation of products across geographies, Mentoring to mention a few.
Career Profile:
Responsibilities in the current role is to automate regulatory returns submitted by bank to RBI within tight timeliness and as mandated by RBI employing all standard IT practices. I was and continue to be product manager as well, designing, implementing various banking products for the bank.
Involvement in the Industry
In my earlier organization, Canara Bank, executed first ever automation in banking industry of Returns in 1995/96, Completion automation of all areas of a Foreign Dept. In the current profile in the large private sector bank, mechanization and near zero cost for printing and transferring state of art financial statements to customers, completing ADF project of Bank & RBI. ADF is my new contribution to the banking industry with its successful implementation.
Plans For The Future:
Though I would be retiring coming September (2013)as a regular employee, I would continue to be involved in active consultancy spanning the BFSI vertical covering both banks and RBI. I feel humbled and privilged when banks across the board call on me to get clarifications and assistance. My comfort area is treasury, trade finance, payment systems, Automation, Process mapping, IT standardization, Vendor relationship and management... Project management, product and process evaluation across geographies.
Working Life Management:
Plan in a dairy and assign timeliness to the activities/task. One would need to aim to leave the desk for home at max. 2000 hrs. My work time starts at 0830 hrs in the morning (virtual office). Most productive time for execution of tasks and taking calls, is from 0830 to 1330. From 1400 to 1800 hrs is the time to be utilised for meeting, actioning, implementation & planning for next day. Remaining time for review as in, upto 2000 hrs. This gives me good amount of time with family and friends.
