I joined Tieto 2 years ago when I decided to make a switch in my career from Sales to Marketing. The company and its people have been very warm to me since day one, and I've been presented with numerous opportunities to learn and grow here. Work is fun, and Tieto is my home away from home.
Achieving Targets
Having spent 3 years on the 'field' as a Sales Manager, I know exactly what a sales professional needs to get a deal cracking. I understand how crucial a role brand-image of the company plays in success of the the sales force. I am actively involved in brand building and creating 'wow' collaterals.
Kotler defines Marketing as a social process by which organizations obtain what they need and want through creating and exchanging value with others. I prefer keeping it simple and feel that it can be essayed two words - 'Sales Support'. Good marketing is one which helps the sales force win laurels.
Future trend
The changing trends of marketing can be best defined by the fact how the telephone directory has become extinct today. 'Digital' is the norm now for every aspect of our lives, and it applies to marketing too. Print ads are making way for online campaigns, and paper is transforming to smart phones.
Importance of On line marketing
Today, the internet ranks way ahead of TV, Radio and Print as the preferred marketing method for businesses. A strong online presence is the need of industry today and to support it, a simple URL is not enough. Businesses today need much more in the form of SEO, Social Marketing and Webvertising!
What suggestions would you like to give to the aspirants who want to make their career in Marketing only?
Hone the 2 Hs - 'Honesty' and 'Humility' (key traits of a successful marketeer). Honesty: because developing a superficial 'brand promise' can prove to be lethal. Humility: because there's no place for a big ego in marketeers, which makes them think they know better than their customers.
'Marketing Management' by Philip Kotler is the bible. To keep up with the latest happenings in marketing, is a bookmark website. 'Forbes India' and 'Business Today' are good magazines to subscribe to. Watching latest award-winning ads on Youtube can provide food for thought.
Future prospect
I would love to be at a position where I can sit, look back at the successful campaigns created by me, and smile at my accomplishments. At the same time, I should be up-to-date with the current marketing trends and complement them with my experience till date.
A brand is a company's face to the world. As soon as we see the four overlapping rings on a car, aren't we assured of a very reliable Audi car with superb features? That's the power of branding! I've seen many people joining a company or signing a deal with one, only after they're sure of the brand.
Importance of STP
Many say that a good sales person can sell a comb to the bald. But is that really a good sale? I don't think so. Segmentation, targeting and positioning of a product not only ensures a good sale, but also gets us happy customers.
