Current Job description
My current job profile is the Director of Global Strategic Accounts for AWR, A National Instruments Company. AWR is a wholly owned subsidiary of National Instruments and was acquired in 2011.
My role has two parts: the first is account development for several key global accounts for AWR; the second is to lead the integration and synergy of the sales efforts and channels for AWR and National Instruments
Important decision
1) Staying on the technical track or getting into general management
2) Working on lead generation (marketing) or business development (sales)
3) To choose a role for its work or for the manager I get the opportunity to work with.
Advice to managers
Be prepared to make and follow through on tough decisions if you want to succeed in management.
Handling Office disputes
It is most important to separate the cause of the grievance from the reaction caused by the grievance. Understanding both with empathy and working with the employee to determine next steps he or she would like to proceed with is my typical approach.
Leadership skills
To be a successful leader, one must possess several leadership skills which relate to each other and empower the leader to address different situations.
If I have to pick one leadership skill, it will be the ability to read a situation and apply one's leadership skills appropriately to manage the situation accordingly.
Doing things right
As a leader, you are often in unknown areas so my approach is to develop a plan of action and keep monitoring it for adjustments based on periodical results. The key is to react quickly to mistakes and keep adjusting and improving the plan to meet the overall objective(s).
On the personal side, listening openly to feedback and suggestions from colleagues, family and friends around me serves as a sanity check.
Inspired by
My maternal grandfather, Kishinchand P. Chugani.
He was a visionary who built a very successful indenting business in Singapore. He influenced me to set my path in life and walk on it.
My prospective towards India Technological development
Having technical talent and developing a technical product are 2 different issues altogether. The former is dependant on the capability/skills of the local workforce while the latter is dependant on leadership to create, implement and maintain a development process. For India, the middle level managers will be the key leaders to drive the creativity process and use it effectively. And this is the area where there are some gaps in skill development between the schooling curriculum and initial work experiences.
My family background
I am married to Monisha Daswani and have 2 kids, Darsh and Vanika, ages 5 and 2 respectively. My mother, Kavita G. Mirwani, and my older brother, Amaresh Mirwani also live in Austin, Texas
More about me
I love sports in general with tennis and soccer being my favorites.
