Thoughts on Education system of our country
The education system need to focus more on the practical applicability of various concepts/ theories tought in the schools and colleges. We must promote thought leadership related assignments for our young students. Currently a lot of emphasis is on mugging the syllabus & pass the exams, we must move towards a situation where our education system is contributing towards the evolution of new concepts/ thoughts etc.
My achievements
I am the youngest member of the Enterprise Architecture team of my client, which is a team involved in defining the future IT strategies for supporting the business needs. I started as an analyst, but moved on to be a trusted advisor for the senior architects due to the work I delivered and the business change I was able to introduce & implement at the organisational level in the most challenging & political client situation.
Brief description about me
I am a business process & change consultant having experience of over 6 years, having worked within aviation, public sector, telecommunications, retail banking, and telecom retail industries.
I have experience of enabling IT driven business transformations, business and IT strategic alignment, defining future processes for IT architecture and delivery & establishing enterprise architecture/ data governance at an enterprise-level for global organisations.
Along with delivering various consulting assignments, I have been instrumental in contributing towards TCS's business consulting practice growth within europe by actively participating in pre-sales/sales activities, defining new offerings, practice collatoral and whitepapers.
More about myself
I have aspiration of building self sustainable community in rural part of India (near my parental village) at some stage in my life. Focussing on establishing the employment opportunities and other daily needs for the villagers in their own village, so that they don't have to migrate to cities for work.
Qualities needed to become a successful leader
Three qualities - ability to define the vision and keep the team aligned to achieving the vision; can do, get it done attitude; strong interpersonal skills.
Degree that I recommend
Doing an MBA will be good. Strong analytical skills are also required for my kind of job profile.
My role model
There are many personalities who have inspired me, but am most inspired by Sachin Tendulkar, because of his achievements, humility, never say die attitude, he has achieved so much for Indian cricket and still have been critisized by the media and others many times in his career but he never gave up and continued to do what he is good at - playing cricket. In some of the challenging situations at times I watch his videos of past matched for motivation.
Initiative to develop a country
India is on the way to development at the moment, but development of the rural areas is the key for me. Professionals from various fields like software/ IT could contribute to make the life of the farmers easy by offering softwares/ social medias which could connect them to parties who offer better prices for their products. More and more people should go for higher education in various fields as an educated nation will develop faster.
Influenced by
I am most influenced by my mother, my father died in an accident when I was 17. She was not too educated and had to take care of me and my two sisters. She had to struggle a lot and we had to live on my father's pension for sometime. But even in the most challenging situation she maintained calm and ensured that we (me and my sisters) get proper education. I applied for education loan for my studies and was refused by the manager initially, but my mother's negotiation & the way she convinced the bank manager for approving my loan is a learning which I use as a case study always. The values she has provided to us will remain with us for life and are one of the factors behind my and my sister's success.
Important lesson learned
My key lesson from life is 'keep aspiring for more' and 'keep trying always', sometimes some things are quite challenging, sometime you pass or fail. But one should never stop trying. We only achieve things in life if we try.
Important decision
My decision to go for MBA which was quite expensive according to my family situation and the I had to apply loan for that was one of the best decisions I made, it had proved to provide my great opportunities for my career and helped me grow a lot professionally & personally.
Also moving into right profession - consulting, based on some of the interpersonal skills I have, I have been very successful in this till now.
My strongest skill
People skills - interpersonal, I have worked in various cultures - in UK, Finland, Portugal and India and have been involved in the roles involving client expectation management.
Strong business accumen - ability to relate the project/ business change work we do to the significance it has on the organisation's business has been the key skill helping me do my job well.
Ensuring success
I learn everyday, from my interactions with the senior managers or common people who I meet on a day to day basis, be it my family or any current affairs/ things happening in the world. There are so many wonderful/ inspirational things happening in the world and I get motivated and aspire to add value and make earth a better planet.
My family background
I am born and brought-up in the meerut city of uttar pradesh in India. My father was a pharmacist, who died in a road accident when I was 17. I and my two sisters were raised by my mother. My mother is a housewife and lives in Meerut. One of my sister is in government job and is married, and other has finished her engineering and looking for a job. My wife is working in London as a project coordinator.
Couple of years from now
I see myself as a management consulting partner/ sr. manager position in the next 2 yrs time.
