Could you tell us briefly about your family background?

I hail from a middle class family, where family values are more important than anything else in the world.My father was a State Govt employee and mother is a home maker. I am the youngest one. Now My brother is settled down as a chef in UK and sister works with JP Morgan India.

The Journey So Far

Recession and slump in IT was the starting point of my career. Started as a Java Developer and moved to the QA automation immediately.Had put lots of effort in initial phase, which gave boost to my career and within 2 years I started my second innings in US with all reputed market players.

Currently working at

QA Manager with one of the reputed product base company in Dallas.My primary responsibility is to oversee multiple projects in terms of improving the process and delivering quality product, which includes estimation, planning , execution and responsible for driving all automation projects

Current and Previous Responsibilities

Previously I was an Automation Lead and it's completely different than the role I am performing now.Being an automation expert I was majorly responsible for framework designing, leading the project and delivering quality scripts,whereas now the responsibility is to own the entire project and deliver

Parting thoughts

Faced lots of challenges in life and majority of the times it was financial crisis,like any middle class family.Life is full on problems, it’s our approach that makes us a winner every time.Never say “This cannot be done”… but always “How can this be done” and you will see things getting easier.

Changes in the industry

It has changed significantly within last few years. Industry is very challenging in terms of technology, approach and domain. You need to be very proactive to survive and grow.Organizations are more open towards new processes and implementations,to deliver a quality product in short span of time

Required Reading

The best way to learn is to figure out on your own, which will enhance your skill set and you can come up with some solution, no one ever thought of.There are couple of good blogs for QTP automation "learnqtp.com","sqaforums.com".You can go for ISTQB certification for QA.Google is the best teacher.

Plans for the Future

My initial goal is to be in the top management of the organization within few years. Whereas my long term goal is to get started with a product, which will contribute significantly to the industry.

Most Important Lessons

Always focus on your goal. Don't get disheartened because of any obstacle on your way. Challenges/Obstacles/failure are the greatest teacher in this world, which will prepare you for other major challenges. Always listen completely and reply. Person infront of you can be the greatest talent in earth

Tech trends to watch out for

QA is pretty dynamic now.Every other product is targeted to be delivered to the customer in all possible ways(phone,tablet etc).Frequent releases,Requirement changes on the fly and QA need to accommodate the same.More things are getting automated for faster execution.QA resources are more into tech.

Areas for the Future

Each QA resource needs to be skilled, such as ISTQB certified etc. Needs to be very proactive on implementing all techniques and processes. Needs to be skilled in automation as well. Can't complain of being a manual tester, can't help team on automating stuffs. Automation is not a different entity.

Essential Advice

Don't assume that QA is very simple and anyone can get started with very minimal effort.You really need to be very proactive and understand all concepts and techniques before getting started your career.Communication skill, Logical thinking, planning, estimation and keeping track of task are key.

Points of inflection

By accepting own negative points and always tried to fix those. By listening to everyone carefully but accepted what's right. Taking critical decisions on crucial moments, without bothering about any profit or loss. Always thought beyond my comfort zone and keen to accept new challenges.

Role Model

I don't have a specific role model, since no one is perfect. I think anyone can be my role model based upon their achievement. A sweeper can be considered as a role model for his punctuality or a traffic police, standing on road at 50 Celsius can be considered as a role model for his dedication.

Most Important Decisions

Didn't quit my initial job, even though another organization offered a 70% hike, since money is second priority in comparison to the learning and it always follows knowledgeable persons.Never tried to be in my comfort zone, rather always tried to come out of it.Worked in all possible tech and domain
