The Journey: Early Days to How I Got Here
I was part of building this company in 2006. Our main intention was to build a platform for emerging markets for low end mobile devices. Customer’s expectations were very different and primarily it was to do with mobile phones. 10 to 15 years ago, these phones were built for a very different kind of requirements. This prompted us to build a new platform for these devices. We started working with ODMs and OEMs and other companies. Because our product was much more superior, so we got the attention from all of our partners.
Decisions That Mattered
I joined a startup company where I was the second person to join. The main focus there was to build a complete phone including hardware and software. However, in 2006, I realize the need to start a company focusing completely on software. Thus, Mango Technologies started. The shift was my main career decision.
Trends to Watch Out For
Today almost applications are global in nature and in the next one to two years it has to change. The number of smart phones will increase and this will lead to an increase in the demand for localized applications. At present, 99 % apps are global however in the next 1 or 2 years 50% of the apps will be localized.
Work and Role: Then and Now
In the past I worked with startups and it gave me a very good experience. However here, I am responsible for the complete infrastructure which also includes financial.
Two Years Down the Line
In 2006 we focus on low end devices market like India. For the future, I would like to make Mango Technologies the leader in the smart phone and tablet world.
Do We Need Certifications?
I’m really not sure of what kinds of certifications are available in the mobile app world today. But certification gives you an edge to show that you have been trained in a particular area.  But if I have to hire somebody, I would be checking his skills even though he has certifications. Because I don’t think we have good certification bodies in this space.
Books/ Websites I Recommend
There are several but it depends on your interest area. There are platform specific and design related sources. Mobile app development is not only about writing codes. It is also how we present information on small screen devices. The android page has a forum where you can join and gain immense knowledge. For apple, the apple iOS site is the best.
Last But Not Least
The real world when you become an entrepreneur is different. You must be prepared for all the shocks in your life and always aim to reach the top.
