Could you tell us briefly about your family background?
I am the youngest of three siblings. My elder sister recently passed away in March 2012 and now it is my elder brother and self. I have lost both my parents and i lost my wife to cancer in 2009. Have two daughters both married with the elder living in Mumbai and the younger in Australia.
Parting thoughts
As regards to myself am a sales and marketing professional having worked with MNC's for nearly 37yrs mainly in the consumer durable industry and been associated with the launch of international brands in India. At present teach in a management college subjects related to my core area of expertise.
Role Model
The one person who i have always admired and who has inspired me was Indira Gandhi our late PM. She was one of the most strong willed woman in an era of male domination and she stood firm in all adversity. I credit what India is today to her and it was her vision to build a strong India.
Currently working at
I am a professor with a management institute in Pune and teach subjects related to sale and marketing. Besides teaching i handle the placements for the college to ensure that our students get placed in good corporates, conduct career guidance seminars in schools and colleges and handle admissions.
Most Important Decisions
I worked in Philips for 24yrs which is nearly a life time when i switched jobs and consider that a turning point in my life. It gave me an opportunity to work with two different cultures the Japanese and Chinese from whom i learnt a lot. Teaching has always been a passion and that is what i do now.
Plans for the Future
Well at my age i am now pursuing my MA and will then do my Phd as education has no age limit. Hope to complete it when i am 65yrs and then would like to head a Management Institute if given the opportunity. This has been my dream and am working towards realizing the same.
Most Important Lessons
Well the lessons learnt from life and the corporate world were quite different but had a common bond and that was self esteem and integrity. Another aspect which i learnt was honesty and not to let your ego get the better of you. As a leader of people support them and take the flak dont pass it down
Current and Previous Responsibilities
Present role being of teaching and getting students placed in corporates and career guidance is very similar to what i did in the corporate world. Even there i led people guided them and helped them to achieve their goals as their mentor and not as a BOSS. Was more a friend, philosopher and guide.
Points of inflection
The major points were when i was promoted as All India Sales Manager and when i lost my mother. Another turning point was after i lost my wife as that is when i left the corporate world and took up teaching
