There is more to life than just the Profession. Be politically involved. Join in but remember that entering the arena is not easy. Be socially responsive and responsible.

My Achievments

The love and support that I have been able to give to my children despite being away during their growth period. That they have achieved success on their own steam.
That I have been able to influence select students, subordinates and organizations. Some others that I have been able to lend my shoulder to. And some of my writings regardless of their being noticed.

Thought on Indian Education system

The Indian Education System is very rigid, very rote, very segmental, very hierarchical. Not much focus on learning, exploring, challenging the given. The system needs to be released from the shackles of centralized governance that wish to micro-manage and even dictates which journals a library must buy and from whom. Give academic freedom to the students. Allow them to explore their own passions. Nothing wrong if a student wishes to combine courses in Science with that in Literature or Architecture. A specialty college, like Medicine must also give some exposure to Arts and Technology.

Most Important decisions

The decisions:
To go abroad to pursue my Ph.D.;
To join a corporate organizations to enrich my Training and Consultancy;
To quit teaching and administration on my retirement.

Couple of years from now

More active socially, politically while pursuing my leisure activities.
Also help some in Advisory Capacity.

My role model

Not a role model, but a collage of influences and ideas from a variety of sources.

Degree that matters

For Behavioral Consultancy, A degree in Psychology to understand People followed by study of Management is a must. A few years working in an organization is necessary to understand internal organizational dynamics. Exposure to a variety of work organizations will give maturity.
For teaching and training, learn beyond your own discipline; understand frontiers of knowledge in general.

Important lesson learned

Live life to the fullest. Don't forget family and children in pursuit of profession. Spare time for fun; Play at least one sport all through your life. Get socially involved through a Not-for- Profit Organization. Express yourself fearlessly in all spheres.

Ensuring growth

Being intellectually alive through awareness of world developments in the Social, Technological and Political Spheres. I am planning to initiate advocacy for Right to Acknowledgement and Reply. If you have lost material benefits or opportunities because the authorities did not care to reply, then you will understand what I mean by Right to Acknowledgement and Reply.
