Role of BI
Business Intelligence (BI) is a concept for delivering specific and useful information in the midst of the data-explosion organisations are facing today. It empowers decision making at all levels of management. It provides quick notification of business exceptions, advanced reporting and analysis capabilities and the ability to compare data to improve tactical and strategic management.
Important Decisions
The Decision is most important in our Life to make every day. Freedom or Independance always comes packaged with Discipline. If you miss Discipline, you miss the whole essence of Freedom. At my college, I was free to do whatever I wanted. There was no one to scold me for not doing my studies or for spending a lot of time with my friends. So I had to decide what do I want to do in life, Do I want to spend my time just playing and not doing anything fruitful or do I want to utilize the time and opportunity given to me for shaping up my life.
Concept of BI
Business Intelligence is all about processes, skills, technologies, practices and applications used for supporting decision making.
Business Intelligence applications could perform
- Centrally initiated by the business needs
- It includes decision support system, query reporting, OLAP, data mining, forecasting.
Measures to be taken
BI provides many benefits to companies utilizing it. It can eliminate a lot of the guesswork within an organization, enhance communication among departments while coordinating activities, and enable companies to respond quickly to changes in financial conditions, customer preferences, and supply chain operations. BI improves the overall performanc e of the company using it
Definition of BI
Business intelligence, or BI, is an umbrella term that refers to a variety of software applications used to analyze an organization’s raw data. BI as a discipline is made up of several related activities, including data mining, online analytical processing, querying and reporting.
Companies use BI to improve decision making, cut costs and identify new business opportunities. BI is more than just corporate reporting and more than a set of tools to coax data out of enterprise systems. CIOs use BI to identify inefficient business processes that are ripe for re-engineering.
Learnings
Here are five of the many lessons I learned from my professional life:
Arrive early
Make work friends
Mind your manners
Organization is key
Recognize that building skills takes time
Different from others
The key importance with BI is to look for realistic areas where real measurement will make a difference. Most businesses have a lot of areas that can and should be measured they are not aware of. In these cases, signing up for a Business Intelligence Analysis is the best bet to find out where BI can be applied using a holistic approach.
