Problems that SMEs face in Gujarat:

The Major problem faced by SMEs in Gujarat is skilled manpower. Despite
being skilled, they have problems of attitude and lack motivation and
the right mindset. In the wake of economic slow down in international
trade territories of USA and the European Union, coupled with severe
manufacturing competition from China, SMEs in Gujarat have to adapt with
capacity building, infrastructure augmentation, innovative financing
options, technology up-gradation, investment in research and
development, enhancing quality standards, and fine tuning marketing
strategies etc.

Activities undertaken by GCA:

Since its inception from 1947, GCA has emerged as an apex organization
voicing the concerns of the Chemical and Allied Products Manufacturers
Traders, Exporters and Importers.
GCA has organized various programs
like seminars, workshops, industrial visit as well as exhibitions and
conference for the betterment of Small & Medium Enterprises in the
field of Chemicals, Pharmaceuticals and its allied industries like:
GUJCHEM
EXPO 2006, CHEMEXCIL 2008, Asian Chemical leaders summit 2008, Road
show on business development jointly by Belgium Govt., Interaction cum
business development meeting jointly Japan Dyestuff and Industrial
Chemical Association-Tokyo.

In January 2011, we had organized
International seminar “Global Chemicals Leaders’ Summit 2010 – Global
Competitiveness – Gujarat Perspective”. In this conference we had
national and international speakers and national and International
companies participated in the exhibition.

My role and responsibilities as a President:

To provide leadership to the profession, the Board and the membership;
To
represent the Association, and the profession, in a variety of foray;
To
support the Association and its policies internally and externally;
To
exercise the governing authority of the Board of Directors when advised
to do so by the Board;
Plan and chair Board and general meetings,
including meeting agenda preparation in consultation with the Executive
Director;
To act as the main liaison between the Board and the
executive Committee;
To communicate with the members on a regular
basis such as by way of visits, or in incite columns.

The organization has continually played a vital and significant role in
providing its opinion and expertise to various Govt. agencies and policy
makers to ensure the growth of Chemical Industry in the State.
GCA,
through its members’ participation has been in the fore front of
phenomenal growth and development of the Chemical Industry in Gujarat
State. It is actively engaged in giving impetus to all the efforts of
the state government to meet their defined objectives for the chemical
industry.

Future plans of GCA for 2012:

-To strengthen and expand strategic tie ups with various management
institutions.
-To improve affiliations with National and
International Chemical Institutions.
-To organize annual visits to
the big industries in India.
-In 2 years we plan to organize visits
to abroad for exchange of technical know-how and interaction for
business purposes.
-We are also looking forward to have a GCA
HOUSE in Ahmedabad.
